Southern Democrats are an endangered species. Doug Jones got lucky that his opponent’s campaign collapsed under the weight of scandal and scrutiny; he is unlikely to be so lucky when he shares a ballot with the president. He’d be a fool to vote against Kavanaugh, but then again, it takes a fool to run as a Democrat in Alabama. We can’t be sure, but we’d bet on a yes.
