According to the Washington Free Beacon:
First Lady Melania Trump’s parents were sworn in as United States citizens on Thursday.
Viktor and Amalija Knavs took their oaths in New York, the Associated Press reports. The pair, originally from Slovenia, had been living in the U.S. as permanent residents prior to obtaining citizenship.
The Knavs’ immigration attorney accompanied the couple to the ceremony. Homeland Security Police also escorted the Knavs both in and out of the ceremony, which was held at a federal building in Manhattan.
It is unclear when the Knavses first moved to the country, but by late 2007, Viktor Knavs was listed in public records as residing at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s private club in Palm Beach, Florida, according to the Washington Post.
The Knavses attorney was adamant that they received no special treatment from the government. The couple frequently travels with the Trump’s along with spending time at the White House.
