President Trump’s legal team, led by Rudy Giuliani, has issued a demand to the Mueller team.
According to The Daily Wire:
In a new development, Donald Trump’s legal team says the president is willing to talk with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, but he’s got a deadline: September 1.
Citing concern about interfering with the midterm elections, Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani told the Wall Street Journal that Trump’s legal counsel feels that they can counter a critical report from Mueller and that Trump is willing to speak with him “under limited conditions,” so long as the conversation takes place within the next two weeks.
Last week, the Trump’s lawyers sent a proposal to Mueller agreeing to take questions about “collusion” with Russia during the 2016 but not about obstruction of justice after taking office, which the lawyers feel would just be a perjury trap.
Giuliani told the Journal that “we can live with” that proposal, but within a reasonable window given the election. “We certainly won’t do [an interview] after Sept. 1, because we’re not going to be the ones to interfere with the election,” he said. “Let him [Mr. Mueller] get all the bad publicity and the attacks for that.”
Giuliani also issued a warning to Mueller that they want the investigation wrapped up sooner rather than later. It seems unlikely that Mueller will listen, and still holds the power to subpoena Trump after the deadline laid out by Trump’s legal team.
