Big oil is a myth that liberals pushed in the early 2000s, it is the idea that all the oil companies meet up and figure out who to pay to keep quiet about the various “truths” about the oil industry. This myth falls apart when you realize a big part of capitalism is competition and multiple oil companies colluding would hurt their market. The other big part of this is “peak oil”. Peak oil is the idea that we are running out of oil and very soon we won’t have any, too bad for liberals we were supposed to reach peak oil in the 2000s.
