President Trump is fighting with Congress to get funding for the southern border wall. The fight has caused a partial government shutdown that is heading towards breaking a record for its length.
Trump announced he will address the nation on Tuesday evening via Twitter on Monday:
I am pleased to inform you that I will Address the Nation on the Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our Southern Border. Tuesday night at 9:00 P.M. Eastern.

The need for the wall will be outlined by President Trump. The Heritage Foundation released numbers on Monday about the work that Border Patrol agents are doing at the border to keep us safe without a wall in place:
.@CBP have seen a dramatic spike in illegal drugs at the southern border.
How bad is it? In 2018 they seized (or helped seize):
– 282,000 lbs of cocaine
– 248,000 lbs of meth
– 6,500 lbs of heroin
– 2,400 lbs of fentanyl—enough to kill every person in the United States.

These numbers highlight that the problem isn’t just with the illegal persons who are crossing the southern border but with the illegal drugs that are following the same path.
The Border Patrol agents are succeeding in executing a difficult job while dealing with a border that isn’t secured in the best possible way. President Trump is trying to change this.
