Kate’s Law was a set of legislation inspired by the senseless death of Kate Steinle, Steinle was killed by an illegal immigrant who had been deported 5 times and was released because of San Francisco’s sanctuary city policy following the incident. The legislation gave minimum sentences to criminal and non-criminal immigrants who have previously been deported. Amash voted to defend sanctuary cities in this case.
