House Democrats have officially impeached President Trump in a vote that saw no Republicans join the Democrats impeachment effort. The vote comes almost exactly 21 years to the day since Bill Clinton was impeached for an actual crime.
This impeachment marks only the third time in American history that a President has been impeached. The vote in the House was only bipartisan in the vote against impeaching President Trump which saw some Democrats join Republicans.
The Senate will now be tasked with conducting a trial on the charges levied by the House. Chief Justice John Roberts will preside over the trial.
Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell has promised the Senate will vote to not remove Trump from office and that the trial will end quickly.
