Former Democrat Congressman and Impeached Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, wrote a recent op-ed from prison in which he slammed the Democrat’s impeachment of President Trump. Blagojevich also claimed that Nancy Pelosi would have impeached President Lincoln using the standards that she used for President Trump.

According to The Daily Wire:

Convicted felon Rod Blagojevich, who was impeached and removed from office when he was the Democratic Governor of Illinois, wrote an op-ed published by Newsmax on Monday in which he blasts his party for abusing the U.S. Constitution by engaging in a political impeachment.

Blagojevich writes:

In 1998 I was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives during the Clinton impeachment, and in 2009, as the 40th governor of Illinois, I had the unhappy experience of being impeached and removed from office.

Nevertheless, I offer this interesting and unique perspective about impeachment as I sit here in prison.

“Would Speaker Pelosi’s House Democrats use the same flimsy impeachment standard they are currently using to impeach Honest Abe, one of the greatest presidents in the history of our country?” Blagojevich continued.

Blagojevich noted that Lincoln would have been impeached for obstruction of congress and abuse of power, a special counsel would have been appointed to investigate his attempted appointment of Robert E. Lee to lead the north, impeach Lincoln for suspending the writ of habeas corpus, that Lincoln’s operative “horse-trading” at the convention which was normal was bribery and impeachable, and impeached Lincoln for offering a cabinet position to a Pennsylvania Senator in exchange for delegates.

Blagojevich also noted that based on Pelosi’s hyperpartisan impeachment standard no president is safe from impeachment.
