Does Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have what it takes to lead the Republican Party into the future? Trump doesn’t think so. During a recent interview, the former president said that Republicans need a “stronger” and “better” leader than McConnell.

According to The Hill:

“I think we need better leadership than Mitch McConnell and stronger leadership,” Trump said while appearing on “The Truth with Lisa Boothe” with iHeart Radio and Gingrich 360.

“I mean, he can’t rein in his own people. We have the Mitt Romneys of the world and you know, the Ben Sasses of the world. These are not good for the Republican Party,” the former president added, referring to Sens. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Ben Sasse (R-Neb.).

“Look, he’s hanging by a thread right now with respect to the filibuster. And if they get the filibuster, he’s hanging on [Sen.] Joe Manchin [D-W.Va.], who always goes with the Democrats,” Trump said.

Since January, the relationship between the two Republican powerhouses has been strained since McConnell laid the blame for the Jan. 6 Capitol attack on Trump. However, McConnell has since changed his tune telling people he would “absolutely” support Trump if he runs for president again.
