After House Speaker Nancy Pelosi vetoed two House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy’s nominees to serve on the select Jan. 6 committee he promptly pulled the other reaming Republicans from participating. The showdown happened quickly as McCarthy made his decision to yank the remaining nominees less than an hour after Pelosi announced she vetoed Reps. Jim Banks and Jim Jordan’s nominations.
However, Rep. McCarthy isn’t completely abandoning the Republican Party the plan to further investigate the events surrounding the Capitol riot on Jan. 6th. Instead, the House Republican leader said the party will form its own commission instead of bending to the will of the Democrats.
The Washington Examiner reports:
“We will run our own investigation,” McCarthy said Wednesday, in a hastily called news conference. “Why was the Capitol so ill-prepared for that day when they knew on Dec. 14 they had a problem? And what have we done to make sure that never happens again?”
He railed against Pelosi for creating a “sham process” and refusing to seat Republican members on a committee, a line not previously crossed in the House.
“House Democrats must answer this question: Why are you allowing a lame-duck speaker to destroy this institution?” McCarthy said, referencing Pelosi’s pledge not to seek the speakership again after the end of her term, or foreshadowing Republicans winning back the House in 2022.
Rep. Jim Banks slammed Pelosi for rejecting his nomination to the 13-person committee
Pelosi “knew we would fight back against their political games, and that’s why she didn’t want us to participate in this committee,” Banks said. “It just goes to show this is entirely a political exercise on her part. It’s a shame. The American people deserve better.”
Republicans have called Pelosi out for showing her hand and making it obvious that the committee is a partisan push.

Rep. Banks, who McCarthy selected as the lead Republican on the panel alluded to future plans by the Republican party to form its own exploratory committee.
