A new poll just gave California Governor Gavin Newsom more bad news, most voters do not want to see him in the Governor’s mansion after the September recall election.

The Hill reports:

Fifty-one percent of those surveyed said that they would vote to remove Newsom from office if the recall election were held today, while only 40 percent said they want the governor to stay in office.

The latest results mark a stark reversal from a previous Survey USA/San Diego Union Tribune poll conducted in May that found that 47 percent of voters opposed the recall and only 36 percent of voters favored removing Newsom from office.

The polling numbers paint an alarming picture for Newsom, who will face a Sept. 14 referendum that will determine whether he will be allowed to finish out his first term in the governor’s mansion.

Of chief concern to Newsom is an enthusiasm gap among California voters. Polling has repeatedly shown that Republicans are more energized ahead of the recall vote, putting Newsom at risk despite his state’s solid Democratic majority.

While Republican candidates are gaining momentum in the deep blue state it may not be enough to oust the Democrat governor.

On Wednesday, the first recall debate aired but was skipped by three front runners, Republican candidates Larry Elder and Caitlyn Jenner, and Governor Gavin Newsom.
