Senator Josh Hawley(R-MO) hammered Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on the subject. Senator Hawley pointed out that Austin said there would be no Americans left behind but there were in fact Americans left behind. Austin responded by admitting that the President did in fact leave Americans behind, but would quickly try to move off the subject by thanking the Senator for his private evaluation efforts.

Senator Hawley shut down this sheepish attempt to dodge the question and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin would change his tune in response. Secretary Austin claimed that the Department of Defense was now working on the issue.
