Chicago, Illinois is subject to horrific amounts of gang violence and criminal activity, but for the sake of scoring political points, the city slashed police budgets. 

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot put forward a $16.7 billion spending plan and it included a massive increase in police funding.
