Overdose Deaths Surge

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa commercial facility Friday seized more than 3,100 pounds of methamphetamine, fentanyl powder, fentanyl pills and heroin as part of the second largest methamphetamine bust along the southwest border in the history of the agency, based on information developed by DEA, working jointly with HSI. / Photo provided by: U.S. Customs and Border Protection

During the course of the Covid-19 pandemic, the vaccine wasn’t the only thing people were injecting. Many Americans turned to hard drugs during the pandemic to cope with the many issues that plagued the country, overdose deaths skyrocketed as a direct result.

From March 2020 to March 2021 a total of 96,779 people died as a result of a drug overdose. Note that this is a 29.6% increase from the year before according to CNN. Also take note that this figure does not represent true drug overdose cases or drug overdose resulting from hard drugs, not every overdose is the result of a hard drug, and not every overdose results in death.
