Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has authorized the deployment of the Tennessee National Guard to the US Southern Border. For those unfamiliar with US geography, Tennessee is not a border state, these troops will be sent across several states to border states to combat the migrant crisis.

The Governor is making this move after news that the State is experiencing a massive increase in drug overdose deaths. As many are aware, the prolific use of recreational drugs that have been tainted with fentanyl and other more dangerous drugs has been a major cause of death for people in the United States. Many of these drugs are coming from the southern border and are being smuggled into the country alongside economic migrants who are none the wiser.

This is a power play by Governor Bill Lee but some seem to think that this move by the Governor is purely political and will ultimately be ineffectual. It is unclear if these national guardsmen will be able to help border states reign in immigration but many see it as a step in the right direction nonetheless.
