On Tuesday, Don Bolduc, a retired Army brigadier general and supporter of President Trump, won the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate in a neck-and-neck fight with state Senate President Chuck Morse, defeating him by around 2,000 votes.
Politico reports:
The other big statewide contest is in Rhode Island, where incumbent Democratic Gov. Dan McKee won a battle for political survival against a crowded field of primary challengers. McKee took office in early 2021, after then-Gov. Gina Raimondo resigned to become U.S. secretary of commerce. His and New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu’s victories Tuesday evening ensured that no incumbent governor lost a primary in 2022.
After Tuesday’s primaries, there will be no other elections until the general election — and Louisiana’s unusual “jungle primary” contests — on Nov. 8. Here’s the latest from Tuesday’s elections:
USA Today adds:
White Mountain PAC, a GOP-aligned PAC, spent $4.6 million in New Hampshire to broadcast ads both supporting Morse and criticizing Bolduc. The ads described Morse as “one tough conservative” who would finish construction of the wall on the southern border.
Another ad attacked Bolduc and pointed out Bolduc’s electability, saying his “crazy ideas won’t help us defeat (Democratic incumbent Sen.) Maggie Hassan.”
Hassan, a former governor of the state, is a formidable opponent, but could be vulnerable, especially in this current political climate.
