Veteran GOP Strategist Likens DeSantis to ‘Discarded Spare Parts’

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has recently drawn attention on the national stage, with GOP political strategist Jeff Timmer dubbing him the “worst” presidential candidate he has ever witnessed. Timmer, a senior adviser at the Republican PAC, the Lincoln Project, which consists of Donald Trump critics, criticized DeSantis over his proposal to abolish four federal agencies as part of his fight against the “woke” agenda. In a recent interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum, DeSantis expressed his intention to eliminate the Education, Commerce, Energy, and IRS departments once in the White House, aiming to reduce the size and scope of government. However, polls indicate that DeSantis’s presidential aspirations are a far cry from Trump’s popularity in the 2024 Republican nomination race.

Timmer, while sharing a clip of DeSantis’s interview, took a provocative tone, comparing the governor to a mishmash of former political figures. Jindal, Perry, Walker, and de Blasio, all once candidates for the presidency, were referenced as discarded spare parts that seemingly formed DeSantis’s political identity. Notably, in a 2011 GOP primary debate, Perry failed to recall the name of the third federal agency he intended to abolish, gaining infamy for his inability to answer.

Timmer’s critique holds weight as he brings with him 30 years of experience in the Republican Party, including advisory roles in former Ohio Governor John Kasich’s 2016 presidential campaign and as executive director of the Michigan Republican Party. Additionally, Timmer co-founded the Republicans and Independents for Biden campaign group, further fueling remarks on the controversial nature of DeSantis’s political ambitions.

Timmer is a RINO, but he got it right with labeling DeSantis as the worst candidate ever.
