Former President Donald Trump has recently made headlines for his bold statement during an interview with conservative radio host John Fredericks. Trump declared that even if he faces conviction on any of the numerous criminal charges against him, he would still run for president in 2024, even from prison. When asked by Fredericks if a potential sentence would end Trump’s 2024 presidential ambitions, Trump responded saying:
“No, not at all. There’s nothing in the Constitution to say that it could, and not at all. And even the radical left crazies are saying, no, that wouldn’t stop,”
Adding, “And [a conviction] wouldn’t stop me either, these people are sick. What they’re doing is absolutely horrible.”
The interview touched on recent allegations brought forward by federal prosecutors, accusing Trump of instructing Mar-a-Lago staff to destroy security footage. However, Trump vehemently refuted these claims, stating that he cooperated by providing the requested footage and expressing his bewilderment at the charges.
With a total of 40 indictments to his name, including recent ones from US Special Counsel Jack Smith, the seriousness of the charges cannot be ignored. Nevertheless, some observers argue that the ongoing investigations appear to be politically motivated, lacking substantial concrete evidence
Addressing concerns about the impact of a conviction on his presidential campaign, Trump firmly stated his intention to press forward, pointing out the absence of any constitutional provision that would prohibit him from running from prison
