Nancy Pelosi’s partisan U.S. House January 6 Committee convened Thursday to once again attack 45th President Donald Trump and blame him for the incursion of the building. They then unanimously voted to subpoena Trump, the biggest attack the committee has launched on him yet. Rep. Liz Cheney (WY), the committee’s vice-chair and soon-to-be outgoing member of Congress, bashed Trump during the rhetoric-filled meeting.

American Defense News reports:

“We must seek the testimony under oath of January 6th’s key player,” Cheney said. “We are obligated to seek answers directly from the man who set this all in motion. Every American is entitled to those answers so we can act now to protect our republic.”

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) said the committee has an “obligation” to compel Trump’s testimony.

“This is a question about accountability to the American people. He must be accountable. He is required to answer for his actions,” Thompson said, adding that the move is a “serious and extraordinary action.”

Earlier this year, Cheney claimed Trump “assembled the mob” that “attack[ed]” the Capitol last year. The congresswoman also turned on other members of her own party, accusing them of “dishonor” for supposedly “defending the indefensible.”

Cheney did not stop there. She said, “On this point, there is no room for debate,” adding, “Those who invaded our Capitol and battled law enforcement for hours were motivated by what President Trump had told them: That the election was stolen, and that he was the rightful president. President Trump summoned the mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of this attack.”

Trump responded on Truth Social, writing, “Why didn’t the Unselect Committee ask me to testify months ago? Why did they wait until the very end, the final moments of their last meeting? Because the Committee is a total ‘BUST’ that has only served to further divide our Country which, by the way, is doing very badly – A laughing stock all over the World?”

He continued, “The Unselect Committee knowingly failed to examine the massive voter fraud which took place during the 2020 Presidential Election – The reason for what took place on January 6th,” adding, “Why didn’t Crazy Nancy Pelosi call out the ‘troops’ before January 6th, which I strongly recommended that she do. It was her responsibility, but she ‘didn’t like the look.’ Crazy Nancy failed the American People!”
