The San Diego Union-Tribune told the story of Sam Paredes, an illegal that came to the US as a child but was too old to qualify for DACA under Barack Obama. According to the San Diego paper, he isn’t too happy with all the good press DACA recipients are getting.
“I’m very bitter. These DACA kids definitely have this sense of entitlement,” Paredes said. “People fought for them and they got DACA and they got their work permit and then they went to sleep, instead of working to fight for the rest of us.”
Another man from Mexico, Negrete, works in public relations and was 3 months old when he was carried into the United States. He also doesn’t qualify for DACA but resents the attention DACA recipients are getting. “You think you have it hard?” he angrily told his friend. “You at least have legal status. For some people like me, my mom and some of my neighbors, we don’t have [that].”
The article continues, characterizing these people as if they were civil rights activists fighting for equality; they resent that amnesty is coming to some, not all. The article totally ignores that the men are here as lawbreakers, and resist the notion that they should be treated accordingly by President Trump.
