Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) voiced his support of the House Intelligence Committee’s decision to release the FISA memo, which is said to document surveillance abuses against the Trump campaign and transition team. “Let it all out, get it all out there. Cleanse the organization,” Ryan said. ‘Let it all out, get it all out there. Cleanse the organization.” .He added: “I think we should disclose all this stuff. It’s the best disinfectant. Accountability, transparency — for the sake of the reputation of our institutions.”
Speaker Ryan’s Democrat counterpart, Nancy Pelosi, said it would be irresponsible to release the memo and claims it would be damaging to our institutions. Pelosi clearly wasn’t as concerned about the state of our institution when the DNC funded Steele memo was used to secure a FISA court warrant. Nor is she concerned with accountability, as it’s likely such revelations would have consequences to her party, and their chances in November.
The Speaker has a way of getting things half right, and that half is less important than what he got wrong. Still, it is the mark of progress that the House is standing up to Democrats who appear to be on the verge of a massive scandal, as the Russiagate weapon they used for months blows up in their faces. When the establishment is right, they’re right and deserve recognition.
