President Trump took to Twitter on Thursday to reassure Americans that contrary to media reports, the Wall isn’t “evolving”. “The Wall is the Wall, it has never changed or evolved from the first day I conceived of it.” The President is signaling an open negotiating position, yet refuses to concede that the Wall is something the swamp can whittle away.

….The Wall will be paid for, directly or indirectly, or through longer term reimbursement, by Mexico, which has a ridiculous $71 billion dollar trade surplus with the U.S. The $20 billion dollar Wall is “peanuts” compared to what Mexico makes from the U.S. NAFTA is a bad joke!

The media reports came from the President’s Chief of Staff meeting with the House Hispanic Caucus, wherein it was said that the President’s views had “evolved” on the Wall since the campaign, a key promise to supporters. “There’s no doubt in my mind there’s going to be a deal, so long as men and women on both sides are willing to talk,” Kelly told Fox News. It isn’t clear whether Kelly said what was reported, or if this was more fake news from hostile media.
The media desperately needs to alienate the President from his supporters and will use his signature issue to do so. According to reports, the looming Democrat shutdown deal will determine whether the President is able to fund the Wall in the Senate, where Republicans only have 51 of the 60 votes needed to move legislation to the floor. While it isn’t clear if the Senate will give the President his Wall funding now, what is clear is that the 2018 electorate will have their say about it if they do not.
