Despite President Donald Trump’s two executive orders designed to temporarily halt the influx of refugees into the country, more than 8,000 refugees have flooded into the U.S. since Trump took office, The Daily Caller reports.
Citing State Department figures released Sunday, the DC reported 8,476 refugees — including 1,131 Syrians — have settled into the country, thanks to federal courts holding up Trump’s executive orders aimed at temporarily halting travel from six countries known to be hotbeds of terrorist activity.
Further, the Department of Homeland Security in March announced that around 300 of those are actively being investigated for terrorism.
A federal appeals court in May will hear the Trump administration’s appeal that the president’s executive order was intended to protect the country against terrorism, not ban Muslims.
