Bill Clinton trashed it on the campaign trail, and now Kathleen Sebelius, the head of Health and Human Services who implemented Obamacare, went on tv and absolutely trashed the program. As Townhall reports:
Former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius agreed to two points made by NBC’s Chuck Todd: a) Americans in rural America are getting financially killed by Obamacare. Bill Clinton was not incorrect in saying that the law is the craziest thing in the world; and b) health care choice is a rare event outside of the cities. Remember during the 2016 election, where the former president ripped Obamacare, saying that middle class families can’t afford it because their level of income does not allow them to accept the subsides under the bill.
“You’ve got this crazy system where all the sudden 25 million more people have healthcare and then the people are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half,” said Bill at a campaign rally in Flint, Michigan last October.
Current HHS Secretary Tom Price defended the new GOP replacement bill on Meet The Press saying, “I firmly believe that nobody will be worse off financially in the process that we’re going through.” Guy will have more on this later this morning.
The New York Times and The Washington Post have pushed pieces showing how Trump supporters will be badly hit by this bill by their projections. The Post had a lengthy piece about the rural poor and health care.
This isn’t surprising. Sebelius, now retired from government, no longer needs to make false promises to the American people for the purpose of advancing her career. As is always the case, big, glossy, comprehensive programs that set up barriers between consumers and the market and artificially manipulate prices are costly and inefficient. Politicians won’t suffer, the American people will.
GOP voters should consider the current iteration of Sebelius. Politicians with nothing left to gain are often the most honest. Sebelius is a dyed in the wool liberal, but she has no reason left to lie to you. Administering Obamacare set her up for life. She’ll be able to afford quality healthcare no matter what happens.
The current iteration of the GOP? PJ O’Rourke said it best:
The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn’t work and then they get elected and prove it.
That’s where we’re at. Republicans were elected, and then re-elected, because they promised to repeal and replace Obamacare. The American people gave them the House, the Senate, and the White House to accomplish just that. Their response to this unbelievable mandate is to tiptoe through the tulips and write something that appeases Democrats and furthers the unsustainable status quo. Instead of a market based system that opens up the healthcare market and expands consumer choice, they’re building a house of cards on the crumbling, unpopular foundation of Obamacare. Beyond that, they’re now going around trying to marginalize anyone who points out their utter cowardice.
That’s where we’re at. The Obamacare repeal effort is so embarrassing that we’re now asking these people to be as honest as Kathleen Sebelius.
Don’t let this abomination pass. Call your representatives and tell them you expect more.
