Democrats Jump Off Schumer’s Sinking Ship on Gorsuch Nomination

In a shocking turn of events, it appears that vulnerable, somewhat Trump friendly Democrats are jumping ship on the party’s plan to filibuster Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court vote.

First it was West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin:

Then Manchin was joined by North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp.  Finally, it appears that Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill will vote “no” on Gorsuch, but that she also won’t support a filibuster effort. According to the Kansas City Star, McCaskill, who’s facing an uphill battle for re-election in 2018, warned donors of the pitfalls of filibustering Gorsuch.

McCaskill isn’t the only Dem Senator who’s vulnerable in 2018. Democrats like Tammy Baldwin, Joe Donnelly, Bill Nelson, and Sherrod Brown all serve in states that Trump won. The price of going all in against the President of the United States on his most important agenda item could be high.

Republicans need only 8 Democratic votes to stop a filibuster. Will they get them? Stay tuned.
