Move over, Meryl Streep: there’s a new leader of Hollywood’s anti-Trump hysteria.
Director Joss Whedon—responsible for beloved film and TV franchises like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Toy Story, and The Avengers—warned that Donald Trump is going to literally murder gay people.
The ridiculous claim came via Twitter. Whedon replied to another tweet, which featured an article about the torture and murder of gay men in Chechnya. Chechnya is the small, predominately Islamic region in southwestern Russia, which has been fighting to break away from Russia for decades.
Whedon’s tweet: “This is harrowing, and it’s where we’re headed if we don’t unite and act. Please use your #resistance skills to address this atrocity.”
Whedon provided no evidence as to why the inhumane treatment in one of the most dangerous corners of the world is “where we’re headed” in the United States.
His claim is even more absurd, considering that Donald Trump is by far the most pro-gay Republican President in history. In 2005, he attended singer Elton John’s same-sex wedding—and in 1999, when Trump first flirted with a presidential run, he claimed in an interview: “I don’t care whether or not a person is gay. I judge people based on their capability, honesty, and merit… Their lifestyle is of no interest to me.”
Apparently, Trump’s actual views haven’t quite made it through the knee-jerk, anti-Trump obsession of liberal Hollywood.
