U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte will not seek re-election in 2018.
Goodlatte, R-Roanoke County, has served in Congress since 1993 and will step down at the end of his current term in 2018, which coincides with the end of his term as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
With Goodlatte’s tenure as chairman ending next year, Goodlatte called this a “natural “stepping-off point” for his political career.
“I cannot begin to express how blessed I am to have had the opportunity to serve and take part in the great experiment of self-government envisioned by our Founders,” Goodlatte said in a statement.” It has been a labor of love to work countless hours and travel endless miles on the roads of our District for a quarter of a century.”
