The Mayor of Montvale, N.J. is an immigrant from Syria, made news when he told his town that he would not order city employees to violate federal law. He governs in a swing area, but the town is a Republican enclave. Even in liberal New Jersey, there isn’t a huge appetite to waste resources fighting immigration law, to say nothing of losing federal funding.
