GOP Senator Ernst Says Facilities are Safe but Crisis is REAL at the Border

Senator Joni Ernst recently traveled to the southern border to witness the conditions first hand.

The GOP Senator has reported that while the conditions of the detention facilities are safe, the crisis is real, and they are at maximum capacity.

According to The Daily Caller:

Ernst also visited unaccompanied children and experienced the apprehension of a family first-hand, she told the Daily Caller News Foundation on Tuesday after the three-day trip over the weekend.

She said the border crisis is not something that is “manufactured,” but rather “very real.”

“This isn’t a manufactured crisis,” Ernst told the DCNF. “The crisis we have at our border is very real — it is a humanitarian crisis.”

The detention centers are “very safe,” Ernst said, although she expressed concern that they are at their maximum capacity.

Ernst highlighted that Customs and Border Protection agents are incredibly compassionate but the influx of migrants has heightened the crisis and caused difficulty on border agents to effectively patrol the border.
