A woman has been arrested near the New York-Canada border after sending an envelope laced with the poison ricin to the White House. The “suspicious” package was intercepted by the FBI on Saturday before anyone could be harmed.

According to Fox News:

An arrest was made in the investigation into an envelope addressed to the White House that was intercepted Saturday and deemed “suspicious,” the FBI said in a statement on Sunday.

The Associated Press, citing three law enforcement officials, reported that a woman has been arrested on the New York-Canada border. She is suspected of sending an envelope with poison ricin.

The woman was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Peace Bridge border crossing near Buffalo and is expected to face federal charges, the officials said. Her name was not immediately released.

The individual who was arrested is believed to be the person who sent the letter, according to the FBI Washington field office.

There is no cure or vaccine available to battle the deadly effects of the highly-poisonous ricin, the amount the size of a head of a pin is enough to kill an adult.  Luckily brave FBI officials were able to intervene. The deranged woman’s motives for attempting to send poison to the White House are unclear, however, this is not the first attempt to poison the president with ricin. A man was arrested in 2018 after sending poisonous packages to Trump and a number of other administration officials.

The woman’s name has yet to be released.
