Dem’s Scheme to Dodge Debates Stricken Down by Election Commission

Arizona’s election commission rejected a plan by Democrat gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs to not debate Republican Kari Lake and instead hold “town-hall” events.

The Daily Wire reports:

Hobbs and Lake are in a tight race to be Arizona’s next governor. Recent polling has Lake just edging out Hobbs by less than one point. In recent weeks, the gubernatorial race has become largely about whether or not Arizona voters will have the opportunity to see the two major party candidates debate each ahead of Election Day.

The Citizens Clean Elections Commission (CCEC) voted against a proposal by Hobbs to hold a town hall-style event in which the candidates answer questions separately for 30 minutes each, according to KTAR. The commission gave Hobbs a seven-day deadline to agree to a debate under the general framework; Lake has already agreed. If Hobbs refuses, Lake will be interviewed for 30 minutes on live television.

“We have a format that we have used for a number of years that has been successful, that has given the voters of Arizona the opportunity to compare and contrast the candidates face to face,” Commissioner Mark Kimble said. “It’s incumbent on us to say enough. This is the format that we have set up.”

Hobbs has refused to participate in the typical debate format with Lake, claiming to not want a repeat of the June Republican primary debate that made Arizona the subject of “national ridicule,” according to a letter Hobbs campaign manager Nicole DeMont sent to the commission last week.

“It’s becoming clearer every day that Hobbs’ strategy is to hide from Me, the Press, and the Voters throughout the entirety of this campaign and run out the clock on the people of Arizona. Fortunately, the Clean Elections Commission refused to play into her game and voted down her proposal for a town hall safe space,” Lake said after the commission’s vote.

  1. “We have to pass the bill so we can find out what is in it.” –Nancy Pelosi

“We have to elect her so we can find out what she stands for.” The bet that Hobbs is making that Arizona voters are stupid.

  2. Seems the Democrat candidates are using the Joe Biden method of campaigning……hide in your basement and away from any possible questions from reporters et al, you may be asked. Good for Kari Lake and thank you Clean Elections Commission. Sad that the Democrats choose to not want fair, open and honest elections so that the voters can decide!

  3. It appears that the strategy of the democratic candidates is to hide whenever they are lower in the polls than their opponent. This way people don’t have the opportunity to see the real dishonesty in their actions. Be safe vote other than democrat what’s their mascot oh yes a jackass.Watch for the elephant sitting on the jackass and squishing it like a bug this November.

  4. Kind of wondering what’s going on with this site. Haven’t got any e-mails in awhile then all of a sudden I got a lot of e-mails all the once in the same day. All on vacation? Gov’t cracking down? What’s going on with this site?? Can it be trusted?

  5. I cannot believe that Lake only leads the communist by a point??? Are there that many braindead demoncrats in AZ??? Or is this just more political corruption??
