Instead of directly stating his support for Trump, DeSantis chose to criticize Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis. DeSantis pointed out that Trump had previously praised Florida’s response to the pandemic, which raised doubts about the credibility of Trump’s recent criticisms.

DeSantis emphasized the significance of the primary in “an important process” and expressed the need for it to be duly acknowledged, somewhat deflecting the question.

“You respect the process, and you respect the people’s decisions, how this goes, but I’m very confident that those decisions are going to be positive for us,” he added.

While DeSantis refrained from providing a definitive answer, he expressed confidence in his own achievements as Governor of Florida and outlined his commitment to defeating President Biden and implementing his own policy agenda. He emphasized the importance of respecting the primary process and the choices made by the voters.

Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with DeSantis, accusing him of disloyalty, considering that Trump endorsed DeSantis in 2028 and helped him sustain his political career when he could have easily lost his first Governor race in Florida. However, current surveys indicate that Trump remains the favored candidate among Republican contenders, enjoying a significant lead over his competitors. In contrast, DeSantis is struggling to surpass the 20% mark in popularity.
