The Establishment is Trying to Take Down Trump. This Senator is Standing With Him

The political establishment has never seen anyone quite like Donald Trump, and they’re absolutely terrified. The lamestream media is seizing on every fake news story that fits their preferred narrative; the intelligence community, led by Obama holdovers, is perhaps engaged in an effort to undermine the president; and now, establishment figures like John McCain are coming out of the woodwork to stab the president in the back when he most needs their support.

One man is sick and tired of it: Senator Rand Paul. As the Hill reports, he’s sick and tired of McCain’s shenanigans:

He argued that the nation is “very lucky” that Trump is president and not McCain, who won the 2008 GOP nomination but lost to Barack Obama in the general election.

Paul said that McCain’s recent criticisms of Trump are driven by his “personal dispute” with the president over foreign policy. He added that McCain and Trump are at odds because McCain supports the wide deployment of U.S. troops to protect and promote American interests abroad while he characterized Trump’s views as closer to a realpolitik approach to foreign policy.“Everything that he says about the president is colored by his own personal dispute he’s got running with President Trump, and it should be taken with a grain of salt, because John McCain’s the guy who’s advocated for war everywhere,” Paul said on ABC’s “This Week.”

“He would bankrupt the nation. We’re very lucky John McCain’s not in charge, because I think we’d be in perpetual war,” Paul added.

Paul is right. McCain and his ilk never miss a chance to undermine a Republican president. That’s because they see the Republican party and the patriotic Americans that comprise it as  as nothing more than fodder for their war machine. But the American people are sick and tired of their invade the world/invite the world policy that puts the interests of beleaguered American taxpayers a distant second to the interests of the American foreign policy establishment. If McCain, and those like him are serious about protecting their interests, they’ll put their petty grievances aside and support the president.
