You’ll Never Believe How Many Federal Inmates Are Illegals

A great new statistic to have handy, when someone claims that all immigrants come to America with good intentions: nearly a quarter of inmates in federal prisons were born outside the United States.

Unsurprisingly, more than half of these convicts will face deportation upon being released from prison—and an additional third might be deported, pending further investigation by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

Overall, the cost of incarcerating immigrants in federal prisons exceeds $1.2 billion each year—and that doesn’t even include inmates held in state, city, and county jails.

The latest statistics were released by the Justice Department to comply with an executive order by President Donald Trump, which demanded an array of information relevant to reforming the United States’ broken immigration system.
