The divisive battle over Biden’s pick for ATF head, David Chipman, is raging on and a key voice has come out against his confirmation. Republican Senator Susan Collins has come out to say that she will be a ‘no’ vote when Chipman’s confirmation comes up.
The sportsmen alliance of Maine released Collins’ statement on Chipman’s confirmation. In her statement, she said, “I am concerned that his confirmation would do significant damage to the collaborative working relationship that must exist between ATF, the firearms industry, sportsmen and women, and other law-abiding gun owners exercising their Second Amendment rights.”
Many have already put their foot down when it comes to Chipman, it’s a guaranteed no vote from many of the mainstream voices in the Republican party but that does not mean that his confirmation is not possible.
Chipman only needs 51 votes to get confirmed and even with Susan Collins giving a no there is still the possibility of another Republican going turncoat on this issue. Mitt Romney is an ever-present threat here, Romney could vote to confirm Chipman and that might be the edge Democrats are looking for.
