Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s spokesperson has confirmed that she will not be running for a Senate seat in 2024 and will not primary Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. Although there was speculation that the popular and controversial congresswoman would run, it has now been officially announced that she will not pursue the position.
Fox News reports:
“Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s spokesperson has confirmed that she will not run for a Senate seat in 2024, nor will she primary Kirsten Gillibrand.
Gillibrand announced her re-election bid in January amid speculations she could face a primary challenge from a more left-wing member of her party in the deep-blue state.
“I know it drives everybody nuts. But the way that I really feel about this, and the way that I really approach my politics and my political career is that I do not look at things and I do not set my course positionally,” Ocasio-Cortez told CNN.”
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a 33-year-old congresswoman representing New York’s 14th congressional district. While her name recognition and popularity have led some to speculate about a future push for the Senate, at this time she has confirmed that she will not be running for a Senate seat in 2024 and will not primary Kirsten Gillibrand. This means that Democrats will have to look elsewhere for a candidate to run for the Senate seat, and it’s unlikely they will find someone with the same level of name recognition as Ocasio-Cortez. For now, she remains one of the most polarizing and recognizable members of Congress, continuing to represent New York’s 14th congressional district in the House of Representatives
