The most recent survey by Echelon Insights indicates that in swing states, President Joe Biden trails former President Donald Trump. Respondents were asked to choose their preferred candidate in a hypothetical current presidential election, with options including Trump, Biden, and third-party contender Cornel West. Trump holds a slight advantage over Biden, securing 43 percent support as opposed to Biden’s 42 percent. West receives four percent support, while 11 percent of participants remain undecided.
When focusing specifically on battleground states, Trump’s lead becomes even more significant, as 48 percent of respondents opt for him compared to Biden’s 40 percent. It is worth noting that Trump’s lead falls within the survey’s margin of error of +/- 3.9 percent. In a direct face-off between Trump and Biden, excluding a third-party candidate, Biden manages a narrow one percentage point lead with 45 percent support. Nonetheless, Trump maintains a seven-point advantage in battleground states with 48 percent support, whereas Biden lags at 41 percent.
According to the survey, Biden’s approval ratings are in negative territory. Overall, 55 percent of participants express disapproval of his job performance, while only 44 percent approve to some extent. Disapproval ratings for Biden are even higher when specific issues like the economy and immigration are considered.
The survey was conducted between June 26 and 29, 2023, involving 1,020 likely voters. The margin of error for the survey stands at +/- 3.9 percent. Cornel West, an activist championing civil rights and a former professor of philosophy, recently joined the presidential race as a candidate representing the “People’s Party.” In the survey, West garners three to four percent support. West cites his motivation for entering the race as a pursuit of truth and justice.
