Representative Liz Cheney, in an act of political grandstanding, proposed a bill that 9 republicans broke rank to vote for. Every one of them is retiring.
She proposed the “Presidential Election Reform Act,” in an attempt to prevent another January 6th. The bill, should it become law, would clarify that the Vice President can only count Electoral College votes, not disqualify them. She had this to say to anyone who might disagree with the bill:
“If your aim is to prevent future efforts to steal elections, I would respectfully suggest that conservatives should support this bill… If instead your aim is to leave open the door for elections to be stolen in the future, you might decide not to support this or any other bill to address the Electoral Count Act.”
