Rules Regarding Split Receivers
The Biden administration’s new rule regarding split receivers will require manufacturers to add a serial number to firearm components that did not previously require serial numbers. This means that buying select components for a firearm like the AR-15 will require a background check, not just the firearm itself.
Split receiver firearms like the AR-15 have been subject to controversy in the past by a select few in the gun control lobby for not having all their components serialized. Traditionally only the lower receiver has been considered the “firearm” and is thus the only component that needs a serial number and a background check. For those unfamiliar with firearms, an AR-15 would need both the lower and upper receiver to work as well as a few other components.
